San Francisco, Day 1

Got into SanFran from Santa Cruz yesterday afternoon...decided to stay close to home, walked down Chestnut St. in the Marina district, had a burrito for dinner from some local mexican place, then went next door to the "Horseshoe Tavern", which bills itself as the "Non-Marina" Marina bar (apparently the Marina is a pretty high-rent district full of ex-frat douchebags and barbie doll wanna-be's, etc.)...pretty cool place, definitely a more run-down/laid-back place...knocked back a bunch of beers, watched the Indians spank the Sox, met some very cool local people, including one guy who went to U. Maryland and just moved out here from bethesda, as well as another guy who just moved out here after spending a couple of years living on a houseboat in Annapolis! ended up hanging out with the houseboat dude for awhile, he showed me a couple other cool bars in the neighborhood, including one owned by the family of SanFran mayor Gavin Newsome, and another bar with a big beer-pong/flip-cup setup in the back! i kicked the guy's ass in one-on-one beer-pong, but then we got our asses kicked when we played doubles against another couple guys...got invited to an internet launch party going on in the Marina friday night, complete with bikini contest...

...woke up this morning hungover as shit (surprise, surprise), and it's pretty nasty out there, it was pouring rain outside when i woke up, looks like the rain's cleared for now but not sure how long that'll hold up...i have 3 days to see as much of this city as i can...a daunting task! so now it's time to get out there, start walking, and hope the rain holds off for awhile...
